Running Backpacks

A running backpack needs three things a normal bag doesn't: a vented compartment so wet shoes don't sit against clean kit, a chest or sternum strap so it doesn't bounce on the move, and enough room for a full training day. Every bag here is built to that spec, from $55.

What should a runner look for in a backpack?

Weight first — anything over about 1.5 lbs empty is a bag you'll stop carrying. Then a separate shoe or spike section, because a cross country bag spends its life around mud. A laptop sleeve matters more than runners expect: most of these bags double as school bags between practices. Our track and field backpacks cover the event-specific designs, and the track meet checklist covers what goes inside.
